Soldering smoke contains salicyclic acid, pinene and other noxious chemicals which are harmful to health when inhaled. Collophonium which is the residual part of distillate from tree resin has an irritating effect on the human respiratory system and so have other inorganic derivatives (chlorides). This causes nausia and headaches.  The long term effects can be more severe.  The gases released from the flux during soldering also severely irritate the eyes and often lead to eye diseases.  Soldering fumes are now recognised as a serious health hazard in the electronic industry.

FUMEX is a compact, portable, self-standing, low noise unit which can be adjusted to any angle for maximum smoke absorption and is specially designed to suck the harmful fumes away from the operator which then gets absorbed onto an activated carbon filter. FUMEX is designed for table top operation and the specially designed base allows it to be even hung on any vertical surface, if such a location is preferred.
